Fluorite forms when mineral-rich hydrothermal fluids circulate through cavities and fractures in surrounding rock. As these fluids cool, calcium and fluorine combine to create the well-formed cubic crystals that make Fluorite one of the world's most collected minerals. Variations in trace elements and growth conditions can produce remarkable colour combinations, including the rich purple and blue-green zoning visible in this specimen. Quartz commonly forms alongside Fluorite during the later stages of mineralisation, creating attractive associations that are highly valued by collectors.
The Okorusu Mine is one of Namibia's most famous Fluorite localities and has produced some of Africa's finest Fluorite specimens. Located in the Otjiwarongo District, the deposit formed through hydrothermal activity associated with ancient carbonatite intrusions. Okorusu is celebrated among collectors for its colourful Fluorite crystals, particularly specimens displaying contrasting purple, green, and blue colour zones. Although mining operations have largely ceased, specimens from this locality remain highly sought after and continue to be prized additions to collections worldwide.
Bring home a classic specimen from one of Namibia's most celebrated Fluorite localities and enjoy a beautiful example of the colour, crystal form, and geological history that have made Okorusu famous among mineral collectors.
