Discovered in the heart of the Egyptian desert, the Gebel Kamil Meteorite is more than just a rock—it’s a cosmic marvel with a fiery past. In 2009, an Italian-Egyptian expedition uncovered this treasure in the Uweinat Desert near Gebel Kamil mountain, where a nearly 45-meter-wide impact crater told the tale of a dramatic crash-landing that occurred less than 5,000 years ago.  Total weight is estimated to be around 1600kg.

This meteorite belongs to the Ataxite class of iron meteorites—a rare variety rich in nickel and gleaming with metallic brilliance. What makes it especially thrilling? Its surface is marked with regmaglypts (thumbprint-like dimples) formed as it tore through Earth’s atmosphere.

Each Gebel Kamil fragment is a slice of cosmic drama, forged in the core of an ancient asteroid, and offers scientists and collectors alike a glimpse into the early solar system.
