Found in a 45-kilometer strewn field near Habaswein, eastern Kenya, this meteorite was officially discovered in 2016 when two local brothers stumbled upon unusual rocks while searching for their camels. Villagers collected fragments for weeks before alerting meteorite hunters, and the Sericho Pallasite was formally classified in 2018. Even today, new material continues to emerge, making each piece a rare find.

Belonging to the pallasite class of stony-iron meteorites and classified as an EGP (Eagle Station Group) anomalous pallasite, Sericho Pallasites are formed at the boundary between a protoplanet’s core and mantle. They feature translucent olivine crystals (green to orange) embedded in a nickel-iron matrix, often with well-developed Widmanstätten patterns in the metal. Many specimens display high olivine crystal densities, up to 70–80%, and thin slices allow light to pass through the gem-like pockets, revealing their stunning inner beauty.

With only about 2,800 kilograms recovered worldwide and most fragments exceeding 50 kilograms, Sericho Pallasites are rare and highly collectible.
