This authentic Agoudal iron meteorite from Morocco is a remarkable and highly characterful specimen, displaying an unusual elongated form with deeply textured surfaces and a striking combination of silvery-grey metallic areas and rich reddish-brown weathering. Its rugged exterior is covered with natural ridges, depressions and irregular raised sections, creating a fascinating sculptural appearance that changes noticeably from different angles. The contrasting weathered areas add depth and colour to the metallic surface, making this Agoudal meteorite an especially attractive specimen for collectors of naturally shaped meteorites.

Unlike cut and polished examples, this specimen preserves its natural irregular character, offering an excellent opportunity to appreciate the raw appearance of an iron meteorite as it was recovered from the Agoudal region. The combination of its distinctive shape, weathered surface and Moroccan provenance gives this 10-gram specimen considerable visual appeal.

The History of the Agoudal Meteorite

The Agoudal Meteorite was discovered in the Agoudal area of Morocco's High Atlas Mountains. Two small pieces of iron were collected in 2000 and sold to tourists without their extraterrestrial origin being recognised. The discovery of another specimen in 2011 led to its identification as an iron meteorite and prompted systematic searches in the surrounding area.

During 2012, meteorite hunters using metal detectors recovered hundreds of additional fragments from the Agoudal region. The material was subsequently studied and officially classified as an Iron, IIAB meteorite, with the classification approved in 2013.

The Agoudal meteorite is particularly interesting because much of the recovered material consists of irregular, naturally shaped fragments. Many specimens display thin weathering rinds and strongly textured surfaces, reflecting both their original extraterrestrial structure and the effects of their time exposed to the Moroccan environment.

More than 100 kg of Agoudal meteorite material has been officially recorded, including numerous smaller fragments and larger individuals. The largest recovered piece is reported to have weighed approximately 60 kg. Despite this substantial total mass, each individual specimen remains a unique fragment of the original meteorite body, with its own shape, surface characteristics and weathering pattern.

As an IIAB iron meteorite, Agoudal contains predominantly iron and nickel and represents metallic material formed within an ancient planetary body in the early Solar System. Its metallic composition is evidence of processes that occurred billions of years ago, long before Earth had developed into the planet we know today.

This specimen is particularly appealing because of its rugged natural form and strong reddish-brown weathering, which contrasts beautifully with the remaining silvery-grey metallic surfaces. Rather than appearing uniform, the meteorite reveals a fascinating mixture of textures and colours across its exterior.

Own a piece of the cosmos with this authentic 10-gram Agoudal iron meteorite. Its distinctive natural shape, rugged metallic surface, dramatic weathering and Moroccan provenance make it a fascinating addition to any meteorite collection — a tangible fragment of an ancient extraterrestrial body that has travelled through space for billions of years.
