Ancient Life Locked in Liquid Gold
This impressive piece of Myanmar (Burma) amber with insect inclusions measures approximately 30mm x 20mm x 11mm and has a classic smooth oval shape with beautifully rounded edges. The amber glows in rich golden-yellow tones, framed by deeper caramel-brown borders that give the piece striking contrast and warmth. Within the translucent resin lies a fascinating prehistoric scene – multiple tiny insects, organic fragments, and natural bubbles suspended in remarkable detail. Delicate internal layers and flowing textures add depth and movement, making it feel as though you are peering directly into a miniature world from millions of years ago. To showcase the inclusions even further, this specimen comes with two high-resolution photographs of the insects, allowing you to explore every intricate feature up close.
Amber is not a stone, but fossilised tree resin formed over millions of years. Long ago, ancient forests produced sticky resin that slowly dripped down tree trunks. Insects, tiny plants, and other small organisms were sometimes caught in this resin, becoming perfectly sealed inside. Over vast stretches of time, heat and pressure transformed the resin into the golden, translucent material we now call amber.
Amber from Myanmar (Burma) is among the most important in the world because of its incredible age. Most Burmese amber is estimated to be around 95 to 100 million years old, dating back to the Cretaceous period when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth. This makes it some of the oldest commercially available amber, far older than Baltic or Dominican amber.
These ancient pieces are vital to fossil history. The inclusions preserved inside Myanmar amber provide scientists with rare, detailed snapshots of prehistoric life – insects, spiders, feathers, and even small reptiles frozen in perfect detail. Each specimen offers a direct connection to a vanished world, making Burmese amber not only beautiful, but scientifically and historically significant.
