A remarkable piece of cosmic history, the Gebel Kamil meteorite comes from one of the most pristine meteorite impact sites ever discovered on Earth. The meteorite fell thousands of years ago in the remote East Uweinat Desert of southwestern Egypt, creating the well-preserved Gebel Kamil impact crater, roughly 45 metres in diameter.

The crater remained hidden in the vast Sahara until 2009, when it was identified using satellite imagery by Italian researchers studying desert landforms. When scientists reached the site, they discovered hundreds of meteorite fragments scattered around the crater — clear evidence of a powerful impact from a metallic asteroid that struck the desert at tremendous speed.
Gebel Kamil meteorites are iron meteorites classified as ataxites, meaning they contain a very high percentage of nickel-rich iron. Because of this composition, they lack the classic Widmanstätten crystal pattern seen in many iron meteorites and instead show a dense, metallic structure.

Fragments typically display a dark brown to black desert patina formed by oxidation in the harsh Sahara environment. Where surfaces are broken or cut, the interior reveals a bright silvery metallic iron matrix, often with a rough, jagged texture created during the violent impact and fragmentation of the meteorite.
Holding a piece of the Gebel Kamil meteorite is holding part of an asteroid that travelled through space for billions of years before colliding with Earth in the ancient Sahara. These fragments are highly collectible because they are directly linked to a known and beautifully preserved impact crater, making them an extraordinary addition to any meteorite or mineral collection.
A fascinating gift for collectors, space enthusiasts, or anyone who appreciates the wonders of the universe — a true piece of cosmic history that journeyed billions of years before landing in the desert sands.
