This Aragonite Star Cluster from the Safro Mine at Bou Azzer, Morocco, is a beautifully compact specimen covered in a dense layer of closely packed translucent crystals. The dominant colour is a warm cinnamon and honey-orange, with lighter peach and creamy areas adding subtle variation across the surface. Numerous crystals display the characteristic flat-ended, pseudohexagonal shapes associated with Moroccan twinned Aragonite, while larger crystals around the edges create a naturally defined outline. Several faces catch the light with a soft vitreous lustre, highlighting the three-dimensional texture created by the overlapping crystals. The specimen also reveals areas of lighter material and natural matrix-like growth between the crystals, adding further interest when viewed from different angles.

How Aragonite Star Clusters Form

Aragonite forms when calcium-rich, carbonate-bearing fluids provide the right conditions for crystals to grow. As the crystals develop, several individual Aragonite crystals can grow together in a repeating pattern called twinning. This creates the distinctive star-like and six-sided shapes seen in these Moroccan specimens.

Although the crystals may look hexagonal, Aragonite actually belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system. The apparent six-sided shape is called pseudohexagonal and is created by the way individual crystals grow together. This unusual twinning is one of the features that makes an Aragonite Star Cluster so fascinating to mineral collectors.

The flat ends visible on many of the crystals are natural terminations formed during crystal growth. Certain crystal faces develop more strongly than others, producing the characteristic flat surfaces. These natural terminations, together with the twinning, create the unusual geometric appearance of an Aragonite Star Cluster. The crystals are naturally formed this way rather than being cut or shaped.

The Metaphysical Meaning of Aragonite

In crystal traditions, Aragonite is associated with grounding, stability, balance and patience. It is often regarded as a stone that encourages a stronger connection with the Earth and a calm, centred energy. These are traditional metaphysical beliefs and are not scientifically established properties.

With its earthy cinnamon colouring and fascinating crystal structure, an Aragonite Star Cluster can be appreciated both as a beautiful natural specimen and as a meaningful addition to a crystal collection.

Add this distinctive Aragonite Star Cluster from the Safro Mine to your collection and enjoy its warm Moroccan colours, intricate crystal texture and remarkable natural geometry.
