Collected from the renowned Green River Formation near Kemmerer, Wyoming, this fossil comes from one of the world's most exceptional fossil deposits. During the Eocene, a chain of tranquil freshwater lakes covered the region. Fine sediment settled continuously to the lake floor, gently burying insects, fish, leaves, and other organisms before they could decay. Over immense spans of time, these sediments hardened into limestone, preserving an astonishing record of ancient life.

The Green River Formation is celebrated by scientists and collectors for revealing an ecosystem that flourished after the extinction of the dinosaurs. Although fossil fish are the formation's most iconic discoveries, insect fossils such as Plecia pealei are significantly less common and provide valuable insight into the diverse insect life that inhabited these ancient forests and wetlands.

Every authentic Marsh Fly fossil is a unique survivor from a vanished world. Whether you're expanding a fossil collection, inspiring curiosity in young explorers, or searching for a meaningful gift, this specimen is a fascinating piece of Earth's natural history that has endured through millions of years.
