Exceptional Rusty Cambropallas Telesto Trilobite Fossil

This authentic Cambropallas telesto originates from the fossil-rich Jbel Wawrmast Formation of the Anti-Atlas Mountains in Morocco, a renowned source of large Middle Cambrian trilobites. The specimen has a particularly attractive broad, rounded outline, while the elevated thoracic segmentation creates strong texture and depth across the centre of the fossil. The warm golden-orange colour contrasts beautifully with the pale beige matrix surrounding it.

The fossil occupies much of the approximately 190 × 180 mm specimen, giving it excellent visual impact as a display piece. The History of Cambropallas Telesto

Cambropallas telesto was a large marine trilobite that lived during the Middle Cambrian, approximately 500–521 million years ago. Fossils of this species are particularly associated with the Jbel Wawrmast Formation of Morocco's Anti-Atlas Mountains, including areas such as Jbel Ougnat. The region is recognised for its exceptionally important Cambrian fossil deposits and its spectacular large trilobites.

Trilobites were extinct marine arthropods belonging to the class Trilobita. Their characteristic body plan consisted of three main regions: the broad cephalon, or head; the segmented thorax; and the pygidium, or tail section. The central axial region and paired lateral lobes produced the distinctive three-lobed arrangement that gives the group its name. Their mineralised exoskeletons also made trilobites particularly well suited to preservation in the fossil record.

Cambropallas telesto is especially notable for its large size. Individuals could reach approximately 5 inches and, in larger examples, more than 10 inches in length. Such sizeable trilobites provide an impressive illustration of the diversity and evolutionary experimentation taking place among marine arthropods during the Cambrian Period.

The Middle Cambrian was a pivotal time in the development of complex marine ecosystems. Arthropods were already highly diverse, and trilobites became one of the most successful groups in the ancient oceans.
