This Flexicalymene ouzregui trilobite fossil presents a well-preserved, fully exposed trilobite embedded in its original sedimentary matrix. The articulated body shows the distinctive cephalon, segmented thorax and strongly ribbed pygidium, giving collectors a clear view of the animal's overall morphology.

Flexicalymene ouzregui is a well-documented Moroccan Upper Ordovician trilobite. Geological references place the species within the Upper Ktaoua succession of the Anti-Atlas, with specimens documented from areas including Jbel Tiskaouine near Alnif.

The Story Behind the Fossil

Trilobites were marine arthropods that lived in the world's oceans for more than 250 million years before becoming extinct at the end of the Permian Period. Their mineralised exoskeletons are among the most recognisable fossils of the Palaeozoic Era.

Flexicalymene ouzregui is one of the characteristic calymenid trilobites associated with the Upper Ordovician rocks of Morocco. The species was described by French palaeontologist Jacques Destombes in 1966. Published geological material specifically records F. ouzregui from the Upper Ktaoua Formation, including material from Taggourt n'Tchegout.

During the Late Ordovician, the region that is now the Moroccan Anti-Atlas formed part of the extensive marine environments surrounding the northern margins of Gondwana. The Ktaoua succession contains a diverse trilobite fauna, and research on the Upper Ktaoua and Lower Second Bani formations records Flexicalymene ouzregui as an important component of this fauna.

This specimen provides collectors with an accessible example of a Moroccan calymenid, with the cephalon, thoracic segmentation and pygidium visible together on one matrix plate.
