The Story Behind the Specimen

Goshenite is the colourless variety of beryl, the same mineral species that forms emerald, aquamarine and heliodor. While other varieties of beryl acquire their distinctive colours from trace elements, Goshenite displays the natural beauty of beryl's crystal structure without strong colouration.

The Erongo Mountains are one of Namibia's renowned mineral localities, famous for mineral-rich granite-hosted miarolitic pegmatites. During the final stages of crystallisation, mineral-rich fluids accumulated in cavities within these pegmatites. These open spaces provided room for crystals to develop freely, allowing beryl to form the distinctive hexagonal-prismatic crystals seen in specimens from the locality.

Scientific research has specifically documented colourless Goshenite from the Erongo Volcanic Complex, alongside aquamarine, heliodor and green beryl. Erongo is also celebrated among collectors for its schorl tourmaline, topaz, fluorite and other pegmatite minerals. The Erongo Granite formed during the Early Cretaceous, approximately 130 million years ago, creating the geological environment in which these remarkable mineral pockets developed.
