Amber is not a mineral, but fossilised tree resin. Millions of years ago, ancient tropical trees produced sticky resin to protect themselves from damage. This resin often dripped down branches and trunks, forming natural sticky traps. Small insects, spiders, mites, and plant material occasionally became caught in the resin and were sealed off from the outside world. Over immense spans of time, the resin hardened, polymerised, and eventually fossilised into the beautiful amber we treasure today.
