This Aragonite Star Cluster from the Safro Mine at Bou Azzer, Morocco, is a beautifully dense specimen with an almost rounded, sculptural form created by hundreds of tightly packed crystals. The dominant cinnamon, peach and warm honey tones are complemented by a striking pale greenish-white area running through the centre, creating an attractive natural contrast. Numerous translucent crystals display the characteristic flat-ended, pseudohexagonal forms associated with Moroccan twinned Aragonite, while larger crystals around the edges add definition to the otherwise densely crystallised surface. From different angles, the cluster reveals changing patterns of colour, crystal size and texture, making this a particularly attractive display specimen with plenty of detail to explore.

How Aragonite Star Clusters Form
Aragonite forms when calcium-rich, carbonate-bearing fluids provide the right conditions for crystals to grow. As the crystals develop, several individual Aragonite crystals can grow together in a repeating pattern called twinning. This creates the distinctive star-like and six-sided shapes seen in these Moroccan specimens.
Although the crystals may look hexagonal, Aragonite actually belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system. The apparent six-sided shape is called pseudohexagonal and is created by the way individual crystals grow together. This unusual twinning is one of the features that makes Moroccan Aragonite so interesting to mineral collectors.
The flat ends visible on many of the crystals are natural terminations formed during crystal growth. Certain crystal faces develop more strongly than others, creating the characteristic flat surfaces. These natural terminations, together with the twinning, produce the distinctive geometric appearance of an Aragonite Star Cluster. The crystals are naturally formed this way rather than being cut or shaped.
The Metaphysical Meaning of Aragonite
In crystal traditions, Aragonite is associated with grounding, stability, balance and patience. It is often regarded as a stone that encourages a stronger connection with the Earth and a calm, centred energy. These are traditional metaphysical beliefs and are not scientifically established properties.
With its earthy colours, unusual crystal structure and intricate natural formation, an Aragonite Star Cluster can be appreciated both as a beautiful mineral specimen and as a meaningful addition to a crystal collection.
Add this distinctive Aragonite Star Cluster from the Safro Mine to your collection and enjoy its intricate crystal texture, warm Moroccan colours and fascinating natural geometry.
