This Otodus obliquus shark tooth is a fascinating fossil connection to the early history of the megatooth sharks. The triangular crown, strong root and characteristic overall profile make the specimen immediately recognisable as a representative of this important prehistoric shark. It comes from the Oulad Abdoun Basin near Khouribga, Morocco, where phosphate deposits have yielded abundant Paleogene shark remains. The tooth has been repaired, and this is reflected in the specimen details below. Its size and distinctive form make it a compelling addition for anyone building a collection around shark evolution, prehistoric predators or the lineage leading to Megalodon.

The History of Otodus Obliquus
Otodus obliquus lived at a fascinating point in shark evolution, during the Paleocene to Early Eocene, when marine ecosystems were changing rapidly after the extinction event that ended the Cretaceous. The species is regarded as an early member of the lineage leading toward Megalodon and is one of the classic fossil sharks of the Moroccan phosphate deposits.
Its teeth are readily distinguished by their triangular crowns and generally smooth cutting margins, with some examples retaining lateral cusplets beside the main crown. Large individuals were formidable predators, and published estimates have placed them at around 9–10 metres in length.
The Oulad Abdoun Basin near Khouribga is especially famous among fossil collectors because its phosphate deposits contain abundant remains of ancient marine vertebrates, including Otodus teeth. The gradual appearance of serrations in later relatives provides an intriguing window into how the megatooth shark lineage changed over tens of millions of years.
If the story of Megalodon begins your interest in prehistoric sharks, this repaired Otodus obliquus tooth offers an earlier chapter to own. Add it to your collection or gift it to someone fascinated by the giants of the ancient seas.
