This Moroccan Aragonite Star Cluster is an impressive collector specimen featuring a dense covering of intergrown Aragonite crystals. The surface is dominated by warm peach, orange and honey-brown tones, with areas of white to creamy-white crystals providing attractive natural contrast.

The specimen has an appealing rounded, multi-lobed form, with hundreds of individual crystals packed closely together across its surfaces. Many crystals display the characteristic pseudohexagonal appearance associated with twinned Aragonite, while larger crystals around the edges create a pronounced three-dimensional profile.

Several areas reveal attractive natural colour variation, with translucent peach and orange crystals interspersed with clusters of white and creamy-white crystals. This contrast gives the specimen depth and makes it particularly interesting to examine from different angles.

The Fascinating Crystal Structure of Aragonite

Aragonite is a calcium carbonate mineral with the same chemical composition as calcite but a different crystal structure. It crystallises in the orthorhombic crystal system and is particularly admired by mineral collectors for its distinctive crystal forms and twinning.

The familiar pseudohexagonal appearance of Moroccan Aragonite results from repeated twinning. Individual crystals can appear six-sided even though Aragonite itself belongs to an orthorhombic crystal system. When these crystals grow closely together, they produce the remarkable dense clusters seen on this specimen.

The extensive crystal coverage of this piece makes its complex growth particularly easy to appreciate. Fine crystals fill the spaces between larger individuals, while crystals around the edges extend outward to emphasise the specimen's natural three-dimensional form.

A Beautiful Moroccan Aragonite Cluster

The combination of warm peach-orange colouring and pale greenish-white crystal areas gives this specimen a distinctive appearance. Rather than presenting a uniform colour, the cluster displays natural variations throughout its surface, with different crystal sizes, tones and degrees of translucency creating a richly layered texture.

At approximately 76 mm across, this is a substantial display specimen with enough visual complexity to remain interesting from multiple viewing angles. Its sculptural form and dense crystal growth make it an excellent addition to a collection of Moroccan minerals or Aragonite specimens.

A striking Moroccan Aragonite Star Cluster displaying abundant intergrown crystals, characteristic pseudohexagonal twinning and beautiful natural colour variation—a substantial and highly decorative specimen for the serious mineral collector.
