This authentic Agoudal iron meteorite from Morocco is a distinctive, naturally shaped specimen with an elongated, irregular form and a fascinating combination of silvery-grey metallic surfaces and reddish-brown areas of terrestrial weathering. Its rugged exterior preserves subtle flow-like textures, natural ridges and uneven contours created during its journey through space and its subsequent time on Earth. The slender profile gives this Agoudal meteorite a particularly unusual appearance, making it an attractive specimen for collectors interested in rare and historically significant iron meteorites.

The History of the Agoudal Meteorite

The Agoudal Meteorite was first discovered in 2000 in the Agoudal area of Morocco's High Atlas Mountains. Two small pieces of iron were collected and sold to tourists without their extraterrestrial origin being recognised. It was not until September 2011, when another piece was sold to a dealer in Errich, that its true identity as an iron meteorite was recognised. This discovery triggered renewed interest in the area and systematic searches using metal detectors during late 2012 uncovered a large number of additional fragments.

Agoudal was officially classified as an Iron, IIAB meteorite and approved as an official meteorite name in April 2013. The Meteoritical Bulletin records more than 100 kg of material, consisting largely of small, irregular fragments measuring around 2–5 cm. Many pieces have thin weathering rinds, while some smaller fragments display rounded shapes and remnants of fusion crust formed as they travelled through Earth's atmosphere.

The Agoudal meteorite is particularly fascinating because its metallic structure records an ancient history of impacts and shock within its parent body. Scientific studies have identified Neumann bands, microscopic structures produced by shock deformation in iron meteorites, together with evidence of later recrystallisation. The material contains approximately 5.5% nickel, along with cobalt and trace amounts of elements including gallium, iridium and gold.

The remote High Atlas setting adds another remarkable chapter to the story of Agoudal. Fragments were recovered both from the surface and from beneath the ground, including the largest piece reported in the original classification study, weighing approximately 60 kg and buried around 50 cm below the surface. The meteorite was originally traded under the commercial name "Imilchil" before Agoudal became its official name.

Own a genuine piece of the cosmos with this authentic Agoudal iron meteorite. Its unusual natural shape, weathered metallic surface and documented Moroccan provenance make this 5-gram specimen a fascinating addition to any meteorite collection — a small but tangible fragment of an ancient extraterrestrial body formed billions of years ago.
