This authentic Otodus obliquus shark tooth presents the classic silhouette of an early megatooth shark, with a broad triangular crown and substantial root. The fossil carries the natural character expected from material recovered from the phosphate-rich Oulad Abdoun Basin near Khouribga, Morocco. Its proportions make it an appealing display piece for collectors who appreciate individual fossil character rather than simply size. The tooth has been repaired, and the repair is noted transparently in the specimen details. As a representative of an important stage in shark evolution, it offers an engaging link between the early Paleogene oceans and the later appearance of Megalodon.

The History of Otodus Obliquus
The history of Otodus obliquus is closely tied to the rise of the megatooth sharks. Living in ancient seas during the Paleocene and Early Eocene, this large lamniform predator represents the early part of the evolutionary lineage that eventually produced Megalodon.
The species is especially recognisable for its broad triangular crown, smooth cutting edges, robust root and, in many teeth, small lateral cusplets. Fossils from the Oulad Abdoun Basin are particularly important because the phosphate deposits near Khouribga preserve abundant marine vertebrate remains from this interval.
Some estimates place large O. obliquus individuals at around 9–10 metres in length, making them formidable predators long before Megalodon appeared. An especially interesting evolutionary detail is that the megatooth lineage later developed increasingly serrated teeth, culminating in the huge, heavily serrated teeth associated with Megalodon.
Bring home this authentic Otodus obliquus fossil and add an important early megatooth shark to your collection. Its Moroccan origin and evolutionary significance also make it a thoughtful gift for a dedicated fossil or shark enthusiast.
