This natural Otodus obliquus shark tooth is an appealing fossil example of one of the earliest large members of the megatooth shark lineage. Its triangular crown and robust structure give it the unmistakable profile of a prehistoric predator, while the preserved fossil surface retains the character of its Moroccan origin. It was recovered from the Oulad Abdoun Basin near Khouribga, an important source of Paleogene marine fossils. No repair is indicated for this specimen. With its natural presentation and distinctive morphology, it would make an excellent addition to a shark tooth collection, a teaching collection or a display focused on the evolution of prehistoric marine predators.

The History of Otodus Obliquus

Otodus obliquus lived at a fascinating point in shark evolution, during the Paleocene to Early Eocene, when marine ecosystems were changing rapidly after the extinction event that ended the Cretaceous. The species is regarded as an early member of the lineage leading toward Megalodon and is one of the classic fossil sharks of the Moroccan phosphate deposits.

Its teeth are readily distinguished by their triangular crowns and generally smooth cutting margins, with some examples retaining lateral cusplets beside the main crown. Large individuals were formidable predators, and published estimates have placed them at around 9–10 metres in length.

The Oulad Abdoun Basin near Khouribga is especially famous among fossil collectors because its phosphate deposits contain abundant remains of ancient marine vertebrates, including Otodus teeth. The gradual appearance of serrations in later relatives provides an intriguing window into how the megatooth shark lineage changed over tens of millions of years.

Add this naturally preserved Otodus obliquus tooth to your cabinet and own a real fossil from the early history of the megatooth sharks. It is an ideal gift for a fossil enthusiast who appreciates natural specimens with evolutionary significance.
