This impressive Purple and Green Fluorite Cluster showcases the dramatic colour and geometric crystal forms associated with fluorite from Namibia's famous Okorusu Mine. The Angel Pocket

The Angel Pocket is one of the named specimen-producing pockets associated with Okorusu. Fluorites from this part of the mine are particularly appreciated for their strong colour contrasts, cubic crystal forms and internal zoning.

Okorusu itself is one of Namibia's classic fluorite localities. The mine is part of an alkaline igneous-carbonatite complex, where fluorite formed in association with carbonatite-related mineralisation and replacement processes. The locality became particularly famous for blue, green and purple fluorite, often displaying complex internal colour patterns.

Purple and Green in One Specimen

The most compelling feature of S630 is the dramatic relationship between the dark purple and green fluorite. The broad purple cubes create a strong visual framework, while translucent green areas emerge around the lower and outer portions of the cluster.

Several of the crystals show subtle changes in colour across their faces, revealing the complex growth history of the fluorite. These variations are especially attractive when the specimen is viewed under strong directional lighting, where translucent areas can become more apparent.

The intergrown cubic crystals also create an unusually sculptural form. Instead of presenting as a flat plate, the specimen has considerable depth and numerous crystal faces, giving it a strong presence as a display specimen.

A Piece of Okorusu History

Okorusu Mine operated as a major fluorite producer before closing in 2014. Its specimen material remains highly recognisable among collectors, particularly for the combination of sharp cubic fluorite, green and purple colouration and complex zoning.

This specimen has been cleaned and trimmed, allowing the natural crystal forms and colour contrasts to take centre stage while retaining the character of the original mineral assemblage.

Fluorite has a Mohs hardness of approximately 4 and perfect octahedral cleavage. It should therefore be handled with care and displayed where it is protected from knocks and abrasion.
