The Character of Okorusu Fluorite

Okorusu Mine in Namibia is renowned among mineral collectors for its distinctive green and blue-green fluorite, particularly crystals displaying cubic forms and attractive internal zoning. The deposit formed within an alkaline igneous and carbonatite-related geological environment, where mineral-rich fluids produced fluorite alongside a variety of associated minerals.

The large central fluorite crystal gives this specimen its character. Its broad faces allow the translucent green colour to be appreciated from several angles, while internal variations create darker green areas and delicate purple zones within the crystal.

Fluorite and Quartz Together

The surrounding quartz provides a strong natural contrast to the green fluorite. White to translucent quartz crystals occur around the base and edges of the specimen, with smaller crystals also appearing across the surface of the main fluorite.

Closer inspection reveals additional colour and texture within the matrix, including darker mineralisation and small purple fluorite areas. These details give the specimen considerable visual depth and make it interesting to examine from different viewing angles.
