Steinkopf Green Fluorite – Elegant Miniature Crystal Cluster

This Steinkopf Green Fluorite specimen presents a beautiful arrangement of translucent pale mint-green to soft grey-green fluorite crystals rising from a contrasting, finely textured matrix. Numerous well-developed cubic crystals overlap across the surface, with several larger crystals displaying distinct flat faces, stepped growth and attractive translucency. Subtle variations in colour and transparency give the cluster considerable depth, while small tan-brown areas within the fluorite add natural contrast and character.

The specimen has a pleasing three-dimensional form, with fluorite crystals distributed across the matrix rather than forming a single isolated cluster. Fluorite is composed of calcium fluoride (CaF₂) and is well known to mineral collectors for its cubic crystal habit, wide range of colours and distinctive cleavage. Fluorite is documented from the Norabees I pegmatite within the Norrabees pegmatite field at Steinkopf, part of the extensive Mesoproterozoic Orange River pegmatite belt of Namaqualand. The Orange River pegmatite belt extends for roughly 450 km and contains thousands of pegmatite bodies emplaced during the Mesoproterozoic, around 1 billion years ago.

At just under 5 cm across, this specimen sits comfortably within the Miniature collecting size while offering a surprisingly substantial display presence. Its combination of numerous cubic crystals, soft green colour and natural matrix makes it an especially appealing example of Steinkopf fluorite.
